Day 35- Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom parking is so very busy at 4pm. There are two lines of cars going into park. The tram is very busy, but we are parked close to the Transportation Center and it is only about a 5 minute walk to get to the Monorail. As we get close, we see the Monorail is not running at this time, so we are redirected to the Ferry Boat. The Ferry Boat is a few minutes out, and the dock is filling up, but the Ferry Boat can hold a huge group of people.

The little girl behind us is a little hesitant to go on the Ferry, so I said, “If you go upstairs to the front, the breeze blows through your hair and your (Elsa) dress. It is so much fun!” Her mom repeated it to her. Soon, we were on the boat and her dad was walking up the stairs with her, heading for the front of the Ferry Boat! It is so much fun this time of the year.

Magic Kingdom is bustling as we arrive, and there are so many people just getting there. If you plan to come for the Not So Scary Party, you will need to plan ahead! Tonight’s party is sold out again. Now, we are off to our first FastPass+ for Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor. It is fun to hear the parents and kids laugh in what is a very fun, interactive attraction!

Our next destination is Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin! The lines are really moving fast today, we have our FastPass+, and just as I step onto the moving sidewalk, the ride stops. My spinning car is just behind the rail. I stopped and froze, just as the Cast Member advised me to step back towards him. Oh, good, I didn’t know what to do! In less than a minute, it was up and going once again. I got on my spinning car and was off, looking forward to playing this game! Tooti had the highest score of the day, Twinkie had a good score, and mine was way off today.  We exited onto the moving sidewalk after the ride. Then, we see several TV screens and we have to find the funny faces we made when they took our pictures during the ride!

We are thirsty, so we go towards Adventureland to get a Dole Whip! It is cool and creamy, perfect with a hot, sunny, Florida day! While we are waiting in line, I see a very young family of five with a Dole Whip Float. It is so sweet, they had their 5 straws and the little girls were helping put them in the float. The mom got a sip and gave the littlest boy a sip. I remember when we would share our special treats when the kids were little. Makes me smile to see how kind the family is as they share!

Yay! We got through the long line. Now we look for seating, but it is full, so back across Main Street USA. We see the yellow umbrellas standing over the tables outside of the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. What a wonderful place to see the costumes! Look! That whole family is dressed like mimes! We saw some absolutely great costumes, and more are going by as we see eggs and bacon, peanut butter and jelly, Mary Poppins and a penguin, and so many others.

Now, it is after 6pm and we must exit Magic Kingdom before 7pm, when the Not So Scary Party begins. The Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! Street Party is starting and we get watch as we are leaving. Oh, there Waldo and Ms. Waldo! Picture, please?

There is an amazingly huge crowd of people leaving, and as I turn to look back, there is an amazingly huge crowd of people going into Magic Kingdom for the party! Wow!

What a wonderful afternoon of rides, dole whips, and sunny weather!

Day 32- Magic Kingdom

What a gorgeous day today! The high is only going to be 82 with a nice breeze. The day is relaxing for us as we head to Magic Kingdom. We asked if we could take a picture of this family, they were dressed as characters from Peter Pan and Jake and the Neverland Pirates! They are really cute and fun! We end up riding the Monorail with them and found out that they lived in Texas for a while. We enjoyed talking and hearing their story; their sons were amazing!

On the way to the Monorail, I saw that the ticket offices were sold out for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party tonight. If you plan on going to this, you might want to plan way ahead for the night you want to attend; I know they are totally out of tickets for October 31. I do love going to Magic Kingdom ahead of the party and enjoy seeing all of the costumes!  There is a tiny little baby in a Minnie Mouse costume… adorable! Then, little dudes decked out in little pirate costumes, and the cutest Elsa in a beautiful dress. I just had to ask her grandmother where they found it, turns out they found it at TJ Maxx! Of course, the little princess’ eyes lit-up as we adored her beautiful dress! The bustle is wonderful and the anticipation of the night’s activities is in the air.

We take a minute to enjoy the busy Main Street. We decide to go to the Main Street Bakery and get tea at Starbucks. We had a moment to wait for our drinks, so we visited with a mom and her son from Tennessee! They are full of energy and enjoying the day. I helped hold the door as she ushered her son out in his wheel chair, then another family came out, nice kids! Now, back inside to wait for one more drink.

I found that we got a last minute FastPass+ to get to go on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin!!! When it is really busy at the parks, like it is today, FastPasses are usually completely out. We begin walking fast and drinking our Starbucks quickly as we head to the ride. Today the standby line is only 20 minutes, but I am glad we have these passes. Again, I absolutely love this ride! I got my highest score ever- 344,000! Tooti and Twinkie made Galactic Hero status (999,999!); we took a pic of their scores and headed to the counter to claim their Galactic Hero celebration badges!!! Congrats, kids!

Now, off to catch the Monorail so we can pick up the pups from school! The costumes are numerous as we are approaching party time. If you are visiting the parks, know if you do not have a ticket for the party, the park closes at 7pm on the nights with Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (party guests can stay until midnight). As we get to the TTC (Ticket and Transportation Center), we are seeing costumes everywhere! Ninja Turtles (some with tutus), pirates, the whole group from the Little Mermaid (including King Triton!), characters from Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, and so many more! So many fun and happy people.

Day 30- Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian & Magic Kingdom

Today is a celebration day! We have completed 29 days, and today is our 30th day! Now, where to celebrate? DISNEY WORLD! Yes, and today, we should celebrate with high tea! So, off we go to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa to celebrate.

We noticed it is monsoon-like outside; I think Valet is a great choice as I am dressed to the nines and need to look nice for tea. As we are walking in, we see Richard, who is often greeting guests at the resort. We first saw him back in March during our visit on Dapper Day. He is dressed to the nines as well and is so very kind and happy.

There are a few minutes to spare and that will be a wonderful time to browse the stores upstairs around the Grand Room. There is piano music playing in the lobby; it is so relaxing and wonderfully dreamy.

Tea Time! We are seated by the windows, which is perfect because I love watching the people going by outside. Our waitress is wonderful and our tea is perfectly hot as we begin our teatime. We chose the “Buckingham Tea”. The chef made us the most amazing gluten-free tea sandwiches for the first course. Our second course was special breads from Babycakes with lemon curd, Devonshire cream and a jam. Finally, our last course had amazing chocolate mousse and coconut macaroons. It was a delightful time!

Now, we are off to the parks. Tonight we are going to Magic Kingdom, and the rains are pouring down once again as we head to the Monorail. Then, as we are exiting at the Magic Kingdom stop, I realized that with Florida life, you just get used to the flood of water pouring from the sky. So many kids were having a blast kicking up their heels and wading through the ankle-deep water. Did I say that we usually have shoes that work with the water and rain? Today, we only have our tennis shoes, so our feet are soaked. No problem, a little rain can’t stop us, nor can a monsoon! (Monsoon is Texan for tons of rain!)

I stopped in to get a Band-Aid at the First Aid Station, when a lady came in and asked a question I had never heard. She asked the staff, “When do they determine that it is time to shut down the park?” The attendant said, “This is Florida life, we don’t ever shut down the park for rain.” She was amazed that the park would allow people to stand under the awnings until the rain stopped. It was a funny thing to hear as we headed out in the pouring rain with our umbrellas, wet shoes, soppy purses, and dripping dresses to ride our first ride of the day! It’s a rainy day in Florida, good thing Mickey has a raincoat!…

First ride is Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin! It is one of our favorite rides and we love the challenge of hitting the Zurg targets with the cool laser shooters.

Next, we head for the People Mover! It ended up pausing twice for a couple of minutes inside of Space Mountain. Instead of darkness like usual, the lights were on and we got to see what the track and structure actually look like! It was pretty amazing to see.

Then, we have a FastPass+ for Peter Pan’s Flight, my favorite ride! Ok, one of my favorite rides at Magic Kingdom!

Now off to get a Dole Whip for Twinkie, this is her first day back with us after being sick. We are tickled pink that she is back up to speed for day 30!

Time to head home. We get on the monorail with a great young family! They were so fun to talk to! We were so glad to meet them and their son. As we get off the Monorail we look to see if it’s still raining, make that monsoon-ing, as we head home…

Day 27- Small World and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom

Today is Saturday and Magic Kingdom is open until 1AM, with extra magic hours until 3AM. The weather is a hot 94 degrees on this October day, so we are waiting until this evening to go to the park. We arrived at the parking gates about 7PM. There were the two lines for parking tonight and they were both backed up and stopped. That means it is going to be busy.

Yep, I have never parked that far out, but the trams were running on a good schedule. Our Monorail was full; everyone was happy and we were in a good crowd of people. As one was pulling away, another was ready to pull in and load up! Nice! As we arrived at Magic Kingdom, I could see the front gate was very busy and full.

As we went into the park, there was a steady flow of people coming in and a steady flow leaving out of the park.

Our first ride is in an hour, so we decided to get a Dole Whip. We sat near The Magic Carpets of Aladdin to enjoy our vanilla pineapple floats. It is a nice place to sit, not too busy, and a quieter spot to relax for a minute.

We have a FastPass+ for It’s A Small World and the lines are long tonight. I love FastPasses!  Our boat is loaded and we are off. If you look up to the right as your boat takes off, Pinocchio Village Haus restaurant is there and you will see little children waving through the windows overhead, so we wave back and they smile! With it being so busy, we had time as we waited to disembark and began chatting with the family in front of us, and then the family behind us joined it. It was fun, and they were nice! As we exited the boat, the chimes from the Small World clock were going off for the 9PM bells!

With twenty minutes until our next FastPass, we sat on the stone wall near the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel. A lady and her mom sat hear us, and in a few minutes, this little dude walked up. He said that he lost his mom; I listened and the grandma told him not to worry. I jumped up and said, “We can let a cast member know and they will find her [his mom].”  The lady agreed. I turned, and Tooti was already on her way to the cast member that was near Pinocchio Village Haus. The cast member was great! She asked if his mom got lost, and the little boy said, “Yes.” She talked to him for a minute and he was doing well. In just a couple of minutes we heard his name being called and the whole group of us jumped up and pointed his family in the right direction! It was the coolest thing to see the oldest daughter, she was about 9 or 10, and she ran and just wrapped her arms around her now found little brother in the cutest bear hug! Success: child reunited with this family. We could hear his mom yelling for the family and the sister was yelling, “WE FOUND HIM!!!” We were elated; thanks to all of the people that helped! Happy!

Now, it is time for the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Tooti asked if we could ride in the front. I love riding in the front, it is not jerky, and it is a smooth ride. At the end of the ride is the Seven Dwarfs’ cottage and you can see Snow White dancing with the Seven Dwarfs around. I love this cottage! Ew! There is the wicked witch at their door. Oh, now we are exiting the Mine Train and the path takes you around to see the other side of the cottage as you exit.

The park is crowded with the late hours, and we are going to head home. As we get to the transportation center and onto the tram, I can hear the fireworks going off, and could see them through a few spaces between the tram station and the monorail area. But, as we head towards the parking lot, I can get glimpses of the fireworks! Beautiful.

Day 22- Winter Summerland Mini Golf & Magic Kingdom

This morning was absolutely beautiful. It was a bit cooler, only getting up to 84 degrees today, and perfect with the clouds. Our plan is to go Miniature Golfing at Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course. I am thinking that I am OK with not going directly to the parks. So, off we went to enjoy the cooler weather… well, cooler for Florida.

We arrived at Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course, and it is so very cute! As we were going in, we were greeted by a really nice family coming out of the course, so I greeted them back and I asked, “Who won?”  The dad said, “I think he did!” as he pointed at his son. The little guy was smiling the biggest smile and said, “Oh! Yes, I did!” I congratulated him and we all were off. We saw Santa’s sleigh pulling an Airstream trailer as we rounded the corner. As we walked toward the Airstream, we offered to take a picture of the family that was climbing into the sleigh! I asked who won; the mom said they really didn’t keep score, and the dad said that he was sure the little girl won! “Congratulations! High five!”

We got checked in for the summer course and picked our color of golf balls! Purple for me, Pink for Tooti, and blue for Twinkie! We started the course and it is the most fun I have had in years on the mini-golf course! We laughed at how funny each of us are hitting the ball and trying to play on such a clever course. Each new hole has a hint of how to do your best if you get the clue. I would highly suggest getting to play this course; it was a hoot!

Then, we exited reading the signs and got into the car to head for Magic Kingdom.

There was a nice couple on the Ferry Boat; the wife wanted to talk and I found that they were visiting from Houston, so the weather was fine for them. Before moving to Houston, they came from Pakistan. As we were exiting the ferry, I hollered back at them, “Have a wonderful day!” and got the nicest, unexpected, happiest words of thanks for chatting! It was very nice to hear those kind voices.

The park was more relaxed today and Main Street seemed more elegant. There was something about today – the shops looked crisp with the cloud cover and the windows looked softer with the lace curtains. Even the lettering on the storefronts gleamed with gold lettering. We did some pin trading and then split up to get a bite for lunch. Tooti and Twinkie off to order our gluten free hot dogs at Casey’s Corner, and I went to get some iced tea at Starbucks in the Main Street Bakery. We sat outside Casey’s Corner at the tables with umbrellas. We could hear the Dream Along with Mickey music in the background; it is a very relaxing spot to eat.

As we were pin trading back toward the front gates, there were a couple of games going on: the beanbag toss, and the word scramble game.  We stopped and played the word scramble game and chose to hang around until a good crowd gathered. A preteen little dude actually went up and unscrambled a word. I turned to his mom and said, “That takes a lot for a preteen guy to do this!” She said, “I know!” She was so proud of him! When he finished unscrambling the word, Timon, we gave him a standing ovation! He was so cute!

Now off to the Monorail and head home! It was a refreshing day!

Day 21- Magic Kingdom & Goodbye to Maelstrom at Epcot

Happy Sunday Morning! Happy Sunday Morning! After eChurch with T.D. Jakes of the Potter’s House in Dallas, we are off to Magic Kingdom to grab coffee on our way to Epcot. It is a beautiful, cool day.

I believe everything happens for a reason. We were running a bit behind today, but we finally got on the Monorail heading for Magic Kingdom. We started talking with a lady and she was fascinating! She is in her 3rd day of retirement and is a wonderful conversationalist. Come to find out, she had to go back to her car once, and there we were, chatting and having fun! We exchanged info and found that she was a Colonel, a gun-shooting wonderful lady! I was totally blown away, but so honored to have the pleasure of meeting her! She said that she believes everything happens for a reason. I totally agree.

The thing I remember about going to Disneyland when I was little, were the flowers in the entry that are shaped like Mickey Mouse! Here, at Disney World, Mickey Mouse is in his fall colors.

We did some pin trading as we headed for our Starbucks, only to realize that the Festival of Fantasy Parade was going to begin, so we sat on the steps in a doorway next to the Main Street Confectionary as the parade began. As the music was beginning to play, I started to gently cry. I had the realization that one man’s dream started this beautiful Disney dream and I get to be in these parks. The floats and all of the characters in the parade are beautiful in their colors and detail. The characters are gorgeous and there is such high energy; it is just beautiful!

After the parade, we headed for the Main Street Bakery and then did some more pin trading. We were in front of City Hall in our way out, and I noticed a family getting their picture taken, but the dad was not in it since he was taking it! I offered to take their picture, but realized I didn’t know how his phone worked. “Would you like me to take a picture?” “Oh, yes! Thank you!” “Here, Tooti!” The laughter started as they saw me hand off their phone to Tooti! It was pretty funny.

Then, we were off to Epcot to ride Maelstrom on its final day.

As we were heading to Canada, we found that a friend of ours was going to be at Epcot, so we got to see them and have dinner in Morocco. I feel so refreshed getting to visit with friends.

We headed home and found that we can see fireworks so clearly at the end of our street! So we grabbed the pups, and headed back to see the fireworks! It was such a beautiful, cool evening.

Day 18- Magic Kingdom

Today was school day for the pups and then I was off to Magic Kingdom for teatime with my kids. The park was bustling with excitement and anticipation. We did see a bunch of what we call “the third day meltdown.” It is that moment in time when little ones are saturated with so much to see and so much fun that their little bodies just cannot handle it! At the moment of the meltdown, it is time to just hold them, cuddle them, and give the kids a moment of quieted hugs. The parents who do that seem to hit a restart button and the kids are off to have fun once again.

We saw the Mayor of Main Street; I have heard about him, but today I got to meet him! It is quite an honor for me.

Then, we went to the Main Street Bakery, got our Starbucks, headed for the Tomorrowland Terrace and had our teatime there. We had a view of Cinderella’s Castle in front of us, Tomorrowland to the right. There was a relaxing, cool breeze as we rested and listened to the Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! Street Party. The Mad Hatter was dancing today; we don’t always get to see him, but he is really fun to watch! After our nice break, we were off to explore more of Magic Kingdom.

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of our favorite rides. With the sun so bright outside, it is really dark as you walk through the corridors of Pirates! I finally got to see the mermaids in the water! When you exit, the pirate shop is really great to look around in. Twinkie had to check out the pirate hat!

A favorite shop is Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe. They have some really beautiful ornaments, stockings, books, and other holiday items.

We caught the last few minutes of the Dream Along With Mickey Stage Show at Cinderella’s Castle. It is so beautiful and features so many fun characters! It even has a few daytime fireworks!

The Philharmonic Band came out and they are amazing. They played a medley of classic Disney tunes with a marching band twist. Sometimes, they even play fun older songs like, “Tiger Rag (Hold That Tiger).” I love all of the unusual characters and music that you find on Main Street!

It was so sunny and hot today! It was time to go home, so off to the Monorail and Tram to the Heroes parking lot! A beautiful time on a beautiful day!

Day 17- Happy Birthday to Magic Kingdom & Epcot!

Magic Kingdom and Epcot are both celebrating their birthdays today! Magic Kingdom opened October 1, 1971! Epcot opened October 1, 1982! Happy Birthday to you both!

We decided to go to Epcot first! Celebrations began with eating soup in France. Les Chefs de France has the most wonderful French Onion soup. The chefs there are amazing and make a great Gluten Free soup for us!

Next, we are going to see the Air Supply concert in the America Gardens Theater. It was great; the weather was cool.

We enjoyed the 1.1-mile walk around the World Showcase Lagoon.  Magic Kingdom is our next stop, so we grab the Monorail from Epcot and head over to the Transportation Center to catch the next Monorail to Magic Kingdom. It is so beautiful this time of the evening.

We arrive as the Main Street Electrical Parade is happening. We make it to Starbucks and get a couple of hot drinks to warm up before the fireworks. We have FastPasses to watch the Wishes Nighttime Spectacular fireworks show from the Rose Garden. It was beautiful to see Cinderella’s Castle light in the Celebrate the Magic projection show before the fireworks. The Rose Garden is a wonderful place to sit on the wet grass and watch the projection show and the fireworks! Spectacular!

We have met so many people from Texas all during the day. We waited in the longest lines for the Monorail tonight; people waiting to get on seem to be very restless tonight. We go to the last car and began to get on as a nice gentleman said to me, “I was saving this seat for you.” How kind. I was talking to his wife and found that they had friends in North Texas! They both were so excited that I had lived there; their best friends live there and the couple goes there often! How cool! They got off at the first stop and another family got on. As I was talking to the wife, she said they were from Texas, in Louisville! We met fellow Texans all day! It was good to have that camaraderie with nice and kind folks! A good ending to a wonderful night!

Day 16- Animal Kingdom & Magic Kingdom

Today was awesome! The rain was pouring down, and it was so much fun riding on the Animal Kingdom tram with the spray of rain on our faces. Being a Texas girl, I have never seen so much rain! I would love to send some of this rain to West Texas where they only have about 30 days of water left for the whole town. Wish they had some rain, praying they get some!

Once we got through the gates, we went see the animals on Kilimanjaro Safaris, my favorite ride! We had a FastPass+, but the standby line was only 5 minutes! We had a blast! The best time to see the animals is when it’s rainy; they love the rain and the cooler weather. Today, we took off and had the longest ride we have ever been on. The safari vehicles in front of us kept stopping (there may have been an animal on the road, blocking the path!), so we got to stop every so often, it was great! Pictures? Yes, plenty as we slowed down and enjoyed the rainy day. We met a wonderful mom behind us as she was taking awesome pictures. I had a great chat with her and listened as she told me she was crazy for having 3 kids a year apart. I told her that I thought it was awesome and I bet they were really close. She said they were, but some days it is a lot! I said, “Yep, some days, my kids have to put up with me.” She laughed and said, “Yes, we all have those days!” She had a beautiful family!

We took a break from the rain and sat down by the water in the seating at Flame Tree Barbecue, across from Expedition Everest. It’s our favorite place to sit and eat or grab an iced tea. A lady a few tables away caught my eye because she just kept smiling and looking just past me. I turned and laughed; a crane was sitting right beside me on the railing! It made me laugh and I tried to grab a picture, but he left since I wasn’t feeding him.

We had planned to ride Kali River Rapids, but I just couldn’t add an extra layer of water to my day (yes, even though we were wet from the rain already!). We chose to trade pins around the park instead; we love to trade pins. Oh, I mean, my kids love to trade pins. Let’s go!

Now, I am going to go to Magic Kingdom to grab a Starbucks and warm up. Finally, we are feeling like we are home, our Starbucks friends are recognizing us! A little more pin trading and then we are headed home.

On the way to the front gate, we see cast members with hula hoops. Oh, fun! Tooti loved hula hoops when she was little; she even won a prize at Dairy Queen for hula hooping! Yep, she is now hula hooping! Soon, there are more kids and now, a dad joining in the fun! After hula hooping, we see a word scramble game in front of City Hall! Spelling game: challenge accepted! Twinkie got the first one, and then knew the second word and a young boy knew, but he didn’t want set the letters in the right order; Twinkie even asked if he’d like to help. Then, the competition was on! So much fun as older, grandparent-aged kids laughed and joined the fun!

Absolutely refreshed from meeting so many fine people and so many fun people! It was a wonderful day as we made our own sunshine! Refreshed!

Day 15- Magic Kingdom Rainy Day

Today we watched the weather to see how the evening would look. There was a flood watch and rain all around, so we dressed accordingly and headed for Magic Kingdom. We got a close parking spot and made a beeline for the Monorail. The park was bustling, even with the rain.

First, we went to ride The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh! As we were waiting in line to scan our FastPasses, a lady was really nice and offered to share her umbrella with me. That was a kind thought!

This is a really cute ride! You begin by boarding a honey pot, which then enters into the Winnie the Pooh storybook. You really do become a part of the story as you ride through Pooh’s tale.

After the ride, we decided to head to Main Street to get some tea when Twinkie brought up Dole Whip Floats. Yum! Off to Aloha Isle in Adventureland! As you get close, you go past the area to meet Peter Pan, and Aloha Isle is on the right! The Dole Whips are so very tasty; my favorite is the Dole Whip Float with Vanilla and Pineapple Swirl (in pineapple juice). It is out of this world.

Next, we were going to ride Splash Mountain, but the rain was coming down pretty hard, so we grabbed some French fries to let the rain lighten up.

The park looks so pretty in the rain, it is a really great night for pictures!
